I had all the same sorts of issues and it was driving me nuts. But with the current version of Java (7.something) and ASDM 6.4 there is an extra step. Add an exception to the Security tab of the Java console and add ip adress of the ASA.

Apply, then clear out your browser history and it will work. I used Firefox as my browser. My Java Console dialogue box is attached for reference. If you have already downloaded the ASDM previously, simply click Run ASDM in the first web page that opens, then wait a moment. You should see a dialogue box open up into which you enter the username and password that corresponds to one of the username(s) and passwords entered into the ASA via the CLI commands username xxxxx password xxxxx privilege 15 If you get further security exception questions, just accept the risks! None of the previous options worked for me. What eventually worked was adding the path to the javaw.exe file in the 'path' variable.

Control Panel System Advanced System Settings Advanced Environment Variables. Under the 'System variables' heading, scroll down and click on 'Path', then click 'Edit'. Click in the 'Variable value:' field and hit the 'Home' button on your keyboard. Key in the file path to the javaw.exe file on your hard drive, followed by a semicolon. For my system, I keyed in the following: 'C: Program Files (x86) Java jre7 bin;' including everything but the quotes.

It may be different for your system. Just search for javaw.exe on your C: drive and use that for your path string. Hope that helps!%uFEFF.
